Thailand immigration forms cheat sheet

Thailand has several commonly referenced immigration forms (often “TM” forms). Travelers usually only encounter a few of them — but mixing them up causes unnecessary problems.

This guide explains the forms you’ll most likely run into, what they’re for, and where to read deeper.

The “big four” most travelers should know

TM47 — 90‑day reporting

Used to report your current address if you stay long enough.

Guide:

TM30 — residence notification (landlord/host)

Usually the landlord/host reports your stay location. Travelers should know it exists because some extension processes ask for TM30 proof.

TM7 — extension of stay

Used when you request an extension (stay longer without leaving Thailand).

Guide:

TM8 — re‑entry permit

Used when you leave Thailand but want to keep your permission/extension valid.

Guide:

Common confusion (avoid these)

  • TM47 (90-day report) is not an extension.
  • TM30 is not done by most travelers themselves (usually your host), but it can matter.
  • TM7 extension and TM8 re‑entry are different. One extends time; the other protects your permission when leaving.

If you’re staying beyond short tourism: 1) Read your visa/entry guide (DTV / ED / retirement)
2) Learn extensions + re‑entry permits
3) Learn 90‑day reporting
4) Learn overstay rules (so you never need them)
